Kick-off event

Day: Tuesday, April 1, 2014
Time: 4:00 pm - 8:45 pm
Location: 190 Doe Library

All participants must attend the kick-off event, where teams will be given access to the Bancroft FSM Archive material they have to work with. Participants who have not established teams in advance will have time to form teams at the kick-off event. There will be time, space and supplies (paper and markers) for participants with project ideas to pitch those ideas to others in order to form a team.

4:45 pm - 5:10 pm   Speaker on Free Speech Movement history

5:10 pm - 5:35 pm   Goals & guidelines (final product and judging criteria)

5:35 pm - 5:45 pm   Hackathon logistics (mentorship model, space available for work, etc.), questions

5:45 pm - 7:00 pm   Form teams and meet mentors / subject specialists

7:00 pm - 8:45 pm   Space available for teams to start working



Day: April 12, 2014
Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Location: Room 210 South Hall

Space will be available in the morning for teams to finish their work. Teams will be randomly assigned to a presentation slot at 11:45 AM. All work must be submitted by 12:00 PM, using a form that will be available on 4/12. The winning entries will be announced at 2:45, and at 3:00 the first-place team will present their project as part of a Cal Day event on the Free Speech Movement Archive.

#HackFSM was a one-time event held in April 2014. The winning site is now available. A white paper on #HackFSM has also been published, with practical information for other libraries that are interested in holding hackathons.
